RESEARCH DESCRIPTION
I am an ecosystem ecologist broadly interested in understanding the extent to which global change (rising temperature, altered river flow and resource supply, and biotic invasion) affects the metabolism and biogeochemistry of ecosystems and the extent to which ecosystem function can be rehabilitated in degraded systems. I find it particularly interesting and instructive to ask questions across different scales (soil microsites to catchments to continents) and habitats, although I specialize in river and riparian ecosystems. I use a range of research approaches: field studies, laboratory assays and experimentation, theoretical models, and macroecological meta-analyses.
